Smoothing Out Unfinished Hardwood Flooring
It's not surprising many people are patronizing unfinished hardwood flooring. This is because they are relatively cheaper and more affordable, if you're out to save some money, then it's unfinished hardwood flooring for you. But, you have to greatly consider that there would be some work for you to do.
There are preparation steps that you have to do to ensure that you will have a great looking floor and that it will last you a long time. This preparation is very critical; this can spell the huge difference on how great your hardwood flooring will look like.
First off, your unfinished hardwood flooring should be sanded well not only to smoothen it out, but also to open up its pores in order for it to absorb well the finishing material you will be using. If you do not have any experience in sanding, you should find someone to do it for you since improper sanding, which may lead to some warping and gouges, can shorten its lifespan.
You then need to vacuum the area where you did your sanding to be able to remove the wood chips and dust created by the sanding. A cloth dipped in a cleaner will then be used to wipe the sanded floor board to remove smaller dust and oils to enable it to be clean enough for the sealant or finish that you will be using.
You can then choose which kind of sealant to use. A good sealant should be applied as this will provide protection as well as the great look the unfinished hardwood flooring will have after.
